Personal Statement

I am a responsible, intelligent, respected high school student. My current gpa is a 3.54. I am enrolled to take the PSAT next year, and I am planning on taking SAT prep classes. I have not committed to any specific major yet, but am mainly focusing on the medical field. I am a very skilled and talented basketball player. I have many skills that are better than others, for example my defense, which is spot on. I have played basketball for 4 years now and am hoping to continue playing in the future. Although I have not yet officially been on the varsity team, I have been pulled up to play one game with the team this season. My basketball experience has revolved around being on my school teams. Although I have not played for any travel teams I am a starter for my school JV team. My mile time is 7 minutes and 45 seconds, I ran on my high school Varsity track team last year, I was a sprinter. So due to that practice my basketball sprinting level has become higher. My free throw percentage is 75% and I tend to shoot many shots during the game. I weigh 125 pounds and I am 5 feet 6 inches. At my high school we don't rank each player, but on my own opinion I would rank myself on top 2 on the JV team, as would my teammates. I practice every day during the school week (Monday - Friday) during the basketball season. During off season I practice almost every weekend and run every other day. On my own opinion I see myself as a team leader. For the past 2 season that I have played on the JV team at my school, I have always been a team captain for the games. I always go 110% during games and above and beyond at practices so I can do better during the games. I always try to help my teammates out at practice and support them while they are playing the games. My main strengths as a basketball player are my defense and running skills. On fast breaks I am always the first to make it down the court. At my school I am know as the best defensive player our school has. During games I am always on the ball, we mainly play in a 2-3 zone and I am on the wing. My coach puts me there so no one can fly by for a layup. He also puts me there so I can steal the ball from the offense. Not to mention I am a very high jumper so I block many shots that the other team takes. As I am a sophomore I am just now starting to look at colleges and scholarships. So I have not had any contact with college coaches. I have not yet made a highlight video, but that will be one of my goals this season. As for college, I have my eyes set on James Madison University, but if that doesn't work out I am mainly focusing on getting into a Division I or II college. To try and get my basketball career out there I have talked to my counselor and signed up on the NCAA eligibility program and many other programs. During this process my main worry is about what all I need to do to get myself out there for coaches to look at me.
