Personal Statement
While I identify as a multi-sport athlete, rowing is the sport that best fits my athletic and personal style. I love the grit and absolute determination that competitive rowing requires and have found joy in the technical nature of the sport. Of course, training and competing in some of the most beautiful outdoor settings doesn't hurt. As I aspire to compete at the college level, rowing is my primary athletic focus. I am primarily a sculler, but have trained with GreenLake Crew in sweep and found that I love both. Recently, I attended the Sparks Rowing Leadership Program in New Zealand for 6 weeks to train with Otago University rowing coach, Greg Sinclair.
Academically, I am passionate about science, particularly, life sciences. (My Christmas present last year was a copy of Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy. Wooohooo!) As a way to fuel my curiosity, I am the chair/founder of the Blazing Neurons, a high school science club focused on neurodiversity. Recently, I launched a lower school peer mentoring program in which upper school students offer support and encouragement to neurodivergent students in 3rd through 5th grade. Additionally, I am a STEM tutor, assisting all types of learners, with a focus on Biology, Advanced Biology, and Forensics. I was selected to be a participant in the University of Washington's "Neuroscience for Neurodiverse Learners" (NNL) program, which I will attend from 2020-2023. The curriculum has bolstered my scientific knowledge while improving my ability to advocate for a rainbow of learning styles. I believe that our differences are our greatest assets! I recently completed a research-based internship in neuroscience at the University of Washington under Manuel Ferreira, M.D., Ph.D.
I am self-motivated, committed to my academics, and a team player in the truest sense. I'm eager to be part of an athletic program that fosters a positive and inclusive environment and values an athlete's physical and mental health. I am a believer that excellence comes in all shapes and sizes and that - with enough perseverance - any obstacle is surmountable.
In my free time, I skateboard, watch anime, and maintain a small cat-sitting business, which keeps me from having to beg my parents for spare change. :)
