Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Alyssen Noriega. I want to someday become a safe space for student athletes. I am hoping to get a degree in the sports counseling field. What drove me towards this career is after my injury my freshman year of college, I went through a lot. I later suffered from migraines which stemmed from unknown depression, and anxiety. During the whole process I had to learn to pick myself up, and persevere. Looking back, I have learned to be very grateful for all I experienced, and am proud of where I have come. Although in those dark moments I felt weak, I now look back and understand that God has a plan, and all I have been through is to prepare me for what I am meant for. This being said, I feel athletes are often times looked at as players before humans, and told to "suck it up." I want to be in a place in my career where athletes are able to feel supported, and motivated to work on themselves from the inside out.
As a candidate for any collegiate team, I have become strong and confident in all I can overcome. Overcoming adversity is what life forced me to get comfortable with over the past two years of my life. When the fight gets tough, I not only get tougher, yet I also get smarter. I also have lived by the motto we>me mentality with all the teams I have played for. If I do not do what I am supposed to do to get better, neither will my team, and if my team is not doing what they need to do to get better, neither will I. It is a cooperative effort everyday. No matter what the contribution is whether on the bench, or being the leading scorer, everyone is an important asset to the wins and loses.
