Personal Statement
As an elementary student playing AAU basketball and volleyball, I developed a competitive spirit and a love of athletics. Those experiences pushed me to work hard and develop a greater love of the game. What really made me be a better player today was the level of competition I experienced and the success of being a member of our high school team competing at the state level. I know that playing at the collegiate level would help me become a much better player and well rounded individual, which would have a greater impact on my life.
I am a very coachable athlete and not only want to do what is best or me, but for my teammates as well. I strive to be the best leader possible and want to set the best example I can for my teammates on and off the court. I have a nice soft shot and one of my strongest assets is being quick and decisive when going to the basket. I try do everything fast but yet under control. According to my high school coach, "Sophie has experienced success because she works as hard and as fast in practice as she does in a game."
I am active in many extra curricular activities such as student council, Future Business Leaders of America, 4-H Club, and Catholic Youth Group. As you can see from my involvement in school, I am a very well rounded student athlete and feel it is important to be involved in many aspects of school.
I fully understand the importance of attending college and graduating. I would like to include basketball in my college experience because it has taught me perseverance, teamwork, goal setting and leadership. I want to push myself to excel in academics and athletics and certainly see this as a once in a lifetime opportunity.
