Personal Statement
I began diving at the age of five. Diving at a young age, gave me an early opportunity to learn from experienced coaches and divers. I learned how to conduct myself as a supportive teammate and serious athlete, as well as how to develop plans to achieve goals and what commitment was necessary to dive at a high level. Diving and other sports have taught me the very direct correlation between work and results.
Since 2012, I have qualified for USA Diving Junior Nationals nine consecutive years. I have won two silver medals and one bronze medal. I won a Junior National Synchro Title and dove at the Pan-American Junior National Championships in Cuba and won a bronze medal.
There have been some challenges in the course of my diving career. One year, I competed three events at Nationals with a fractured hand suffered just ten days earlier. Last year, I competed 1 Meter and 3 Meter at Nationals despite painful and restricting back spasms. In 2016, I was diagnosed with cholesteatomas (cysts) in both ears and suffered complete conductive hearing loss. Over the next year and a half, I had six surgeries to remove the cysts, implant prosthetic hearing bones and restore my hearing. Between and after surgeries, I returned to diving and competition. Although I scaled back my platform diving, there are no limitations on my diving. I am 100% medically cleared and am 100% healthy and fit now. I am proud of overcoming these difficulties and believe I have the experience and confidence to fight through challenges.
I am seeking a college where I can get a quality education, study a variety of subjects and decide whether to join the work force or continue to graduate school. I am looking for a college where I can dive at a high level with a supportive and dedicated program where I can challenge myself and contribute to the team personally and athletically.
