Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Anabella Mosolgo. I am from San Diego, California and have lived here all my life. Diving has become a part of my life for over 4 years following a 10 year competitive gymnastics career. The hard work and commitment for gymnastics was 5 days a week, 25 hours a week, and it was very competitive. Towards the end of my gymnastics career, I decided that I needed to change to a sport that still had the components of gymnastics, but not with the same amount of strain gymnastics took. When I first got interested in diving, I went to Aztec Divers San Diego in 2017 with coach Roland McDonald. When I looked at the pool for the first time, he told me "so we got a future diver here?". From then on, I have continued to dive until today. During COVID, the San Diego State pool closed and I had to switch clubs. I have now been at Dive San Diego since July 2020 and am coached by Adam Bellistri and Marnie Young. My diving has improved a lot throughout this journey and am excited to see where it takes me.
I have always had a positive and hardworking mindset when it comes to school. Academics is one of the most important things in life, as it prepares you for the future and reflects a lot about you. I have kept a good GPA throughout my life and strive to improve more everyday. My courses have consisted with a combination of both AP classes and honors classes to challenge myself in my academics. I also had the amazing opportunity to take a Sports Medicine class two years at my high school with the past athletic trainer. Those two classes were the most impactful courses I have taken. Later this year, I will also be taking Honors Medical Interventions. Sports Medicine is the field I want to study in college and pursue as a career. In school, I am a student senator for my class and along with this, I am in Key Club and California Scholarship Federation. I have been the Varsity Dive team captain two years in a row, and this has been a great opportunity to show my leadership skills and be a role model to others. My high school faculty recognized me with two CARE awards (recognizing critical thinking and effective communication) which only 20 students at the school achieved. I greatly enjoy time with my family and friends outside of school and dive, and enjoy the outdoors with them. I believe spending time with your loved ones is an important part of your life, so I spend as much time as possible with them.
The main reason I want to go to college is that it will allow me to pursue a major in sports medicine, kinesiology, and orthopedics. My goal is to find a career in which I can have hands on experience and help others succeed in life as well. I myself have experienced injuries and would like to use this experience to help others recover from and prevent injuries. I am excited for college because I will be able to become an independent, connect with new people, and find my best career path.
