Personal Statement
I love sports and consider myself to be very athletic. I first started sports at the age of two when I learned to ski. I was fortunate to grow up in the Lake Tahoe area and ski raced competitively for a almost 10 years. I also played competitive soccer and did gymnastics for a few years.
I started diving at the age of 9 and instantly knew that I would want to stick with it. Diving has taught me many important things over the years, but the most important thing I’ve learned is that a positive attitude is key. Not only in practice when you are learning and perfecting new dives, but also in competition. I have been coached by Jianli You for the past seven years and she has not only taught me how to dive, but also how to compete under pressure and how to have fun doing it!
I have qualified for nationals 5 times. Everyday at practice I do my best to be a role model for the younger divers, and try to be the best teammate I can be. Academics is also something I am very passionate about. I do my best to maintain a high GPA while taking Honors and AP courses. At the same time I am good at balancing my school goals with dive practice and meets, and volunteer work. I work hard at managing my schedule and priorities, and am a member of The National Honor Society.
