Personal Statement

Golf for me, has been something that has shaped and rounded me as a person. It has taught me patience and control of my temper. It has shown me true focus and dedication and how to achieve that. It has taught me how to be competitive and friendly to my competitors. I have made many friends through golf and changed my person in the process. Golf has made me more of a leader, because on the course, you have yourself, and only you to depend on. But at the end of the day your entire team's score gets added up. It has taught me teamwork as well; it has shown me how to rely on myself and others at the same time. There is much to be learned from the great game of golf, you just have to be willing to learn from it. 5'6" for a girl is not very tall, but I am one of the tallest girls on my team, the second tallest to be precise. But it's not my height or my weight (152 lbs.) that gave me the edge on my team and allowed me to hold the number 1 position, it's my dedication to practice and to every shot I hit when I am on the course. I focus in on what I want from the shot, how to achieve that shot, and how it will help my next shot, then I hit the ball focused, determined and confident I will hit a good shot. It is this focus and determination that helped me achieve first team all league during my junior year. I hope to play golf in college, it would allow me to improve my game and make life long friends of my teammates. Personally, I'm open to any part of the US for college, I'm not very picky. A school in a really cold state or humid state would be somewhat of a shock for a California girl, but I would adjust. I'm open to all different types of people and cultures. My parents make money just like everybody else's parents. It may be a little more or less than everybody else, but they make enough for us to live comfortably. But with sending three children to college, money will be tight, so financial aid would be severely appreciated. My goal in college is to achieve a bachelor of science for chemistry, physics, or chemical engineering. Physical science has always been a passion of mine just for the fact that it is fun. I love the labs, and I love learning it. Whether it is challenging or easy, I love it. What really influenced me to become a chemist was my junior year when I took AP Chemistry as a class. The stuff I learned in there was really interesting, intrigued me and set me on becoming a chemist. Whether I am a starter on a golf team or I sit for a year or two, it doesn't matter to me. As long as I have the ability to play golf every day, I will be happy. Golf is something that I love, and I hope I never have to give it up.
