Personal Statement
Hi! I am Andrea Neilson, but you probably already know that! I am 16 years old and a junior at Freedom High School in Oakley, California. I stand at 5’7 and weigh in at 130 lbs.
Ever since I was little I have always been athletic! I learned how to swim a 6 month old and I played just about every from Karate to Soccer when I was little. I have always enjoyed golf, but it really became my passion when I joined The First Tee. They have helped me prosper as a leader, golfer, and person through the nine core values of: Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Courtesy, Perseverance, and Judgment. Through The First Tee I was able to attend prestigious camps such as the; Hank Haney Summer Camp and Leadership Academy at ASU.
The skills I have acquired though these programs have shown through my position as team captain for 2 years. I am very hard working and have the drive and desire to accomplish my goal of playing collegiate golf. I have been playing competitive golf for about 4 years and as I practice more an more my scores continue to drop. My Freshman year my handicap was in the 8 range and now during my Junior ear it has become a 4.6 and continues to drop. During my high school career I continue to receive many accolades. I was my team’s Rookie of the Year my Freshman year. I have received 1st Team All- League all three years and Scholar- Athlete for my last two. My Sophomore year I was also awarded League MVP.
My dedication to the game has also be proven by my post season trip this year. During our league tournament I placed in the top three and my team moved on to NCS qualifier. I qualified with a 79 as an individual and moved on to NCS. There I shot a 76 and missed the cut by one to advance. This experience has made me work even harder in order to advance farther my Senior year.
Even though I spend much of my time practicing, I focus a lot on my grades and school will always come first. I am not 100% sure on what major I would like to focus on but I really enjoy science and sports so I have looked into Forensics, Pharmaceuticals, Physical Therapy, and Communications.
