I was 12 years old when I was selected to be part of my school's high school varsity golf team. Even though I had been playing golf for two years, I never realized how much being part of a team would be so important to me and how much the team experience would impact me as a student and an athlete. I was the youngest and smallest player on the team but was chosen to be one of the starting players. I never missed a match or a tournament. I feel that this was when I understood that challenges made me a better player and a better student. Playing a high school sport while in middle school and during two seasons as a high school student not only helped me mature as a student athlete but made me realize that I wanted to continue with being part of a golf team in college.
Being part of a team has made me realize the importance of teamwork and leadership. I have learned a lot from my fellow teammates and most importantly have learned that I am capable of doing or exceeding expectations for managing schoolwork and team commitments. I am prepared to take on a leadership role on my high school team as I enter my junior and senior years and mentor new team members as well as provide support to my coach and fellow teammates. I am looking for a college experience that will help me achieve my academic goals and allow me to compete at college level golf. While I know that college will provide me with continued growth and development in academics, I am confident that I will bring a good work ethic and team skills to any program that would consider me.
