Personal Statement

My name is Taylor Viquelia. I'm 16 years old and a Junior at Kaua'i High School. I'm 4'11 and weigh 95 pounds. I started golfing when I was about 3 years old. My dad brought me along with him while he was golfing. He never intended for me to play golf. He plays right handed so I picked up his golf club and copied his right handed swing which made me a left handed golfer. Ever since then, I never stopped golfing and I enjoy it a lot.
My most important accomplishments was during my freshman year when I played during the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA). I came in top 15 with the 15th spot. It was a big accomplishment for me because it was my first year playing in HHSAA. Another accomplishment for me was winning two Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA) tournaments in 2011.  I also play in Kauai Junior Golf Association (KJGA) and won a lot of those tournaments. During KJGA we won the Atlanta/Kauai Team Challenge and it was the first time we won in 8 years. Another accomoplishment was dropping my scores from low 80s and high 70s to low 70s and mid 80s.
For a team, I can offer encouragement and positive attiudes. I'm a very nice and friendly person. I'm also very determined to play my best. When I play in tournaments I try my best in each shot and even if it's a bad shot I still won't give up.  Playing golf in college is what I've always thought of since I was little. I want to continue my golf career after high school because I've been playing for so long and I don't want to stop now.
I would like to go to a school that's somewhere in the west coast such as Hawaii, California, Oregon, Arizona, etc. I enjoy the warm weather better than the cold so going to a school in the west coast would be nice. It also would be closer to home and closer to my family. My family wouldn't have to travel that far if they wanted to visit me in college.
The type of school I'm interested in is a Division 1 school. I would also like to go to a school that's big and has a lot of students because I get to meet new people and have new friends.
From my freshman year till now I've changed my major a lot. I finally decided that I want to do Psychology. I'm hoping to become a relationship/family therapist because I like helping people with their issues. If that doesn't work out, I would like to become a sign language interpreter. I find sign language to be a very interesting language that only uses their hands to communicate.
My athletic goals as a freshman in college is a chance to golf with different women that play at a high level. I also would like to play my best in college golf and be a big help to the college golf team.
