Golf has been a large part of my life. It acts as a bond with others, a place to channel energy, and as a challenge that has contributed to my overall growth. I started practicing the sport during a very rigorous academic school year in an attempt to relieve stress. Prior to joining the team, I have long enjoyed playing with my grandfathers and learning from their decades of experience. As I started practicing and training, I became even more fond of the sport. The challenge of hitting a good shot and seeing the ball finally go into the hole fueled my competitive nature, one that I was able to share with my teammates. I enjoyed being able to improve and compare that improvement against my peers during matches. I want to take that enjoyment of competition to the collegiate level, and even beyond, if I get the chance.
I fully understand what it means to be a student athlete. As an example, in addition to playing golf, this semester I am taking 3 AP classes, 2 Honors, and 1 accelerated course. Maintaining good grades with this schedule isn't easy, but being able to challenge myself and learn from my mistakes is something I enjoy. It's what has allowed me to keep up my 3.9 GPA. I love a challenge, and carry that passion into everything I do. What sets me apart is my determination, which I use to propel my skills on both the golf course and in the classroom.
With that being said, I'm constantly growing and learning. I'm open to change and that speaks to my character. My teachers and my swing coach have consistently acknowledged my efforts, growth and potential.
