Personal Statement
My name is Rachel Johnson, I am a Senior at Yorktown High School in Yorktown, Indiana. I have been playing competitive golf since I was five years old and want to continue playing at a collegiate level. In 2013 I finished ninth in the state tournament shooting 74 both days and playing from 6,000 yards. I participate in many summer tournaments, and have played on my high school varsity team since I was a freshman.
I want to participate on a college team because that has been a goal of mine for a long time. I work very hard on my golf game and understand that hard work and dedication pays off. Never having formal golf lessons, I feel allows me to be more open about learning new things. I am very excited to learn new techniques to improve my game.
Over the course of high school, I have learned that education is very important. Time management and finding the style of learning that fits best for you is key to success. Also, I have learning that it is a privilege to be part of an athletic team not a right. With this information I learned that each minute should be used for good reasons and not abused. Being a part of a team and building life long friends is very important because they become like family.
I have wanted to become a collegiate golfer for a very long time. I understand the dedication and time you have to put into your studies and games. College is the next step in my life and I am looking forward to see what the future has in store.
