Hi, My name is Ashley Cong, I am a golfer from Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. I was introduced to golf ever since I was little as my dad enjoys golf as a hobby. I started taking golf seriously and playing competitively starting from freshman year when I joined the Girls Varsity Golf Team at Cranbrook and realized how important golf was to me and that I want to pursue it in high school, college, and beyond.
One of the strongest strength that I consider myself as a golfer is my stability. I usually don’t get overcome by emotion (anger, nervousness, excitement) that effects my game. During tournaments I focus on the game’s future shot, not the past one. I've had a tournament which I started with a terrible front nine with multiple bogeys but shot evens on the back nine. I'd say my swing is somewhat similar that of Michelle Wie, especially the way I end my swing. But I'd consider my game play more similar to Lexi Thompson with a focused, determined, undisturbed mindset to focus on the game, and also Lydia Ko, as I tend to behave the best in my short game.
As I keep up my practices, I try to balance my academics as well with maintaining a stable GPA while taking advanced courses. I am currently interested in economics or business as my major in college. One of the reasons I am considering those majors is because it connects with my golf game in some ways. I tend to think strategically in golf, as well as making moves that will optimize my current and future shot, and I think that would work great in economics. Also, I've always been interested in stocks and the relationships between money and people around the world in a complex market.
