Personal Statement
Greetings,
My name is Laila Franklin and I am a student-athlete. I have been raised and trained to fully embrace and accept the responsibilities of what being a student-athlete means. Through this I have excelled, and continue to experience much success academically and athletically. For the entirety of my high school career I have been a three-sport athlete participating in cross country, basketball, and golf. The sport that I would like to pursue at the collegiate level is golf. I began playing golf at the age of three. My dad and grandpa were the ones that introduced me to the game I love. As I continued to discover my passion for golf, my parents allowed me to have lessons, participate in clinics, and join a Junior league at a local golf course. I am currently the number one varsity girls golfer at Park Center Senior High, and I have had the privilege to be the co-captain since my Sophomore year. I was recently named the captain for the upcoming season as well.
Throughout my journey with golf I have learned a tremendous amount about myself. One of the greatest lessons that golf has taught me is to persist through adversities and never doubt my abilities. There have been countless times on the golf course that my patience has been tested, but I have always persevered and continued to have faith in myself. In golf I have learned that you can never dwell on your past shot whether good or bad. Another major area in my life that golf has assisted me with is my positive self-talk. Golf is such a mental sport. Throughout the years golf has taught me that I have to have confidence and trust in myself. This all boiled down to my mindset and mentality, which is why having a positive mental attitude is so crucial and necessary in the game of golf. The game of golf is extremely intricate and complex, and I have learned to have a deep love, passion, and respect for that. As a result, golf has helped me develop and mature as an individual, and overall blossom into the persistent, positive, young woman that I am today.
