Personal Statement

My name is Rachel Jones and I will be graduating in 2013. I'm hoping to play college golf. I go to Kelley Phillips for private lessons at Sedgefield CC. My home course is Pinewood Country Club in Asheboro, NC.

I tied for 4th in the NCHSAA 3A Central Regionals shooting 82. I also medaled 4th in the NCHSAA 3A State Tournament with an 84 the first day and an 82 the second. I recently played in a Tarheel Golf Foundation tournament called the Sandhills Junior North/South Championship and shot 86 the first day and a 77 the second. I medaled 3rd. I was the medalist for my school conference and had about a 38 average for nine holes.

I've only been playing since my freshman year in high school. I've taken lessons for 2 years about once every 3 weeks. I work extremely hard on my game, practicing daily. My strengths are my ball striking and distance (ie:7 iron - 150 yds). I'm steadily working on my putting and chipping, and will definitely work hard at improving this winter to prepare for spring/summer tournaments.

I plan to compete once or twice a month in some weekend junior tour events through the spring and about once a week in the summer.

I am currently 3rd in my graduating class and have a GPA of 4.6842.
