Personal Statement
Dear Coaches,
Hi, my name is Bailee Twiford! I am currently a junior at Currituck County High School in Barco, NC. I live in a small town named Coinjock, North Carolina with a population of 335 people tucked away in the Northeast corner of North Carolina. Even though our area has many great golf courses, golf was not the most popular sport when I was younger. It was all about softball, I played travel softball for many years and I didn't even think about golf until my father and brother started playing about 5 years ago. It was then that I just randomly picked up a golf club and started swinging. When one of my dad's friends saw me swing for the first time and he said, "that girl needs to play golf!" So I did and the love for golf that was in me all along came out to shine. I have been at the golf course working hard at perfecting my game for the last 3-4 years.
I have improved tremendously over the last 4 years and month after month, year after year I keep producing better results. I feel that I have not even scratched the surface of the potential that I have as a tournament golfer. My team that surrounds me is awesome as well. My parents are doing a great job and continue to do whatever is necessary to aid in my development. My mentor/coach, Brooks Curtis, has helped me tailor my practice schedules for efficient use of my time and we have been working on developing my mental process as of late. Coach Brooks has also introduced me to Stephen Slotterback from Kinloch Golf Club in Richmond, VA. "Slot" as we call him, has produced hundreds of college golfers and I am happy to have him as a swing coach/consultant for the coming years. I have also started a fitness program in 2017 and the results are being seen already. I have gained about 15-20lbs in the last 6 months that I feel is all muscle.
I started my tournament golfing in 8th grade at Currituck County Middle School. I played one season as an eighth grader and then it was off to high school for me. In 2015, I finished 50th individually in the NC State High School Golf 1A/2A Championship as a freshman at CCHS. In 2016, I finished 18th and in 2017 I lead my high school golf team to the North Carolina State 1A/2A High School Golf Team Championship. As an individual, I placed 3rd overall in the State Championship. Also in the summer of 2017 I started playing in the Peggy Kirk Bell Golf Tour and I won the 2017 Hampton Roads Classic at Cahoon Plantation in Chesapeake, VA shooting 72-79=151. I played in a total of 7 PKBGT events in 2017 with 6 top 5's and I qualified for the Optimist World Juniors at PGA National in Palm Beach, FL. I am scheduled to play in the Carolinas Amateur Golf Association and USGA events for the upcoming 2018 summer.
I will continue to improve through lots of hard work and I believe that I would be a good candidate for your golf team because of my work ethic and how self-motivated I am. My goal is to play golf and win at the college level while majoring in Business/Marketing. Golf is a great sport and I hope it will give me the opportunity to get a great education, meet some good friends, travel and enjoy my college years. In March, I will be competing in the CGA-PKBGT Vicki Disantis Qualifier on the 30th and in April the PKBGT MASTERS. If your schedule allows, I would really appreciate it if you would come see me play.
