Personal Statement

My name is Kyleigh McGowen, class of 2023.  I have played some type of sports activity since I was 5 years old.  I have had the opportunity to swim and play softball for 6 years, and then found my passion when I picked up a golf club for the first time in 7th grade.  My grandfather was very excited when he learned that I was going to play golf since he went to college on a golf scholarship.  Golf has taught me how to be strong both in the good times and when times are rough.  It has taught me how to come out of my shell as I use to be very quiet and shy.  It has shown me how to be a hard worker both on the course and off.  You typically can find me practicing my short game and putting or find me studying for a test or project.  I do like to be with my friends but my determination to continue to grow and be better with golf and school always takes priority.  As a senior this year I plan to be a leader and show the upcoming golfers what it means to work hard, what it means to be part of a team, and what can happen when hard work and dedication pay off.

Over the next year, I have several goals that I am working toward.  The first is to work hard on my grades and be invited to join the National Honor Society.  I would like to continue to work toward going to the state tournament, for the 3rd year, and taking home that state title.  My plan after graduation is to move forward with college and play golf at the collegiate level.  I have been planning for two years to major in business and hopefully start my own business one day.  When I have downtime I also like working with the younger golfers (our summer program offers clinics for 1st grade through 6th grade). I enjoy watching them grow and seeing what I can do to help them. As this will be my senior year along with everything listed above I want to enjoy my senior year and make a lot of good memories.
