My name is Alexandra Ozuna. I'm currently a sophomore at Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park, Texas. My journey as an athlete began at a very young age. By the age of seven, I was training 35 hours a week as a gymnast with sights of becoming an elite gymnast. As I progressed through the rigorous training, I earned a spot on the National Tops Team for three consecutive years, beginning at the age of 8. USA Gymnastics has 10 designated levels, of which 10 is the highest, I was able to attain a level 9 designation. In May of 2012, after a successful gymnastics season, I found myself at a crossroads and decided to pursue other interests. Though I stepped away from the sport of gymnastics, I still yearned for the rush of competition which led me to golf. I am very fortunate that golf has run in my family for three generations, to the extent that my father played golf collegiately. My parents have supported me through all my endeavors and were extremely excited when I chose to follow in my fathers footsteps. I began my golf career in June of 2012 with a goal of making the high school varsity golf team. I applied myself and with guidance of my father and PGA professional Lonnie Alexander, I not only made the varsity team, but I became the captain as well. I have come to understand that golf is a challenge both physically and mentally, but I believe that the discipline I attained through my gymnastics training has helped me to rapidly become a highly competitive golfer. I am now competing at the high school level and participating in the South Texas PGA junior golf program.
Though I thoroughly enjoy golf and intend to pursue it to the highest levels, I also strive to excel in my academics. My academic achievements include A's and B's with a cumulative 4.33 grade point average. My grades have recently earned me an invitation to the National Honor Society. In the Spring of 2014, as a junior, I will be enrolled in the Early College Start program at Austin Community College. My academic interest after high school is to attend college and pursue a degree in the medical field.
Thank you for taking the time to review my profile. Although I have only been playing golf for 22 months, my love for the game continues to grow and have now set my goals to play at the collegiate level. My athletic career has showed me that through sacrifice, hard work, and dedication all things are possible,
