Personal Statement

I have been playing golf with my dad since I was five just for fun. I have been a multi-sport athlete all my life, and began to focus more intently on golf in high school. Freshman year I started playing tournaments with my varsity high school team. I advanced to regionals all three years as an individual, and was the number one player on my high school team. (Covid impacted my Junior year of play.) I went to Wingate University in North Carolina my freshman year of college, and was one of 11 women on the golf team. I red-shirted my freshman year and decided to transfer because the school was simply not a fit. I transferred to SMU for my sophomore year because they have a excellent sport management program, which is my declared major. The campus was close to home and I could continue to work on my golf game, albeit independently, with my Coaches. I began playing in golf tournaments again this summer, and it has reinforced my love of competitive golf and the desire to once again be a student athlete. A part of my heart has been missing this past year, since I was not on a team. I love the community of a team, the hard work and commitment it takes to succeed, and the discipline and structure of going from the classroom to golf practice. I would love to once again play collegiate golf and hope to some day be on the tour. I love the world of sports and if I can not be on the field for my career I would love to still be around it, whether that leads me to sports journalism, sports broadcasting, or sports marketing. I have four years of eligibly and would love the opportunity to prove I that I am the player that I know I can be!

  • I shot 77 with 29 putts and got 1st place out of 8 girls. I played from the yardage of 5,740 and the par was 70, and was rated 73. My ball striking was not the best today but it went straight, just inconsistent contact. My short game was really good with multiple up and downs, six 1 putts and a chip in on the 15th hole. I’ve been working really hard everyday for the past two months with my coach Brad Elder and so far it is paying off but I am committed to keep improving!

  • One day qualifying round. Shot 80 and was placed in the third flight. Lost my first match against Trinity King and then won the consolation bracket for the third flight. Par was 72, Yardage was 6,256, and rating 76.6. I did not play very well in this tournament. Was not able to score and simply did not have my best game.

  • 36 hole event. Shot 75,69. T3 out of 13 players in the championship flight. Par 72, yardage 5,217, and rating 68.4. I am very happy with how I played and with my mental game. Have not competed in a tournament since last summer, and was pleased with my first tournament in eight months. Took a lot of positive things away from my performance this tournament. My ball striking was very good and I had some very good birdies and up and downs. I am continuing to work on bettering my short game because it is the weakness in my game but I was pleased to see my practice pay off with some of my shorts during this tournament.

  • 54 hole event. Shot 74, 78, and 83. Placed T12 out of 17 players. Par 72, Yardage 6,248 and Rating 75.47. I was frustrated and disappointed at the end of this tournament. I played well the first day which was 36 holes. The second day we had some rain and wind for the first four holes and the storm slowly left after hole 6. My ball striking was very poor. I saved my score by getting up and down 9 out of 12 times which I was very happy with. I was very disappointed because I played well the first day and was not able to finish the tournament on a high note. Ball striking is usually the best part of my game and unfortunately I was not able to execute the last round.

  • 54 hole event. Shot 82, 87 and missed the cut. Par 72, Yardage 6,511 and Rating 78.6. This tournament was very rough for me. I had a lot of bad bogeys and my putting was extremely bad. I missed 15 putts inside 10 feet and slowly lost a lot of confidence in every aspect of my game. My driver was good but I struggled on the greens and making a score. Mentally this tournament was very hard because I knew I was under performing and really wanted to prove myself at this tournament.

  • 36 hole event. Shot 81, 76. Placed 5th out of 15 players. Par 70, Yardage 5,865, Rating 69.2. Going into this tournament mentally I was still stuck in my last tournament at the Texas Women's Open. The first day we played the North Course and the second day we played the South Course. The first day I started at even after 5 holes and then had a two hour rain delay and could not find my swing. Played good going into the rain delay but struggled after. Throughout the round my driver was good but after the rain delay my ball striking and short game was not good. I was forcing my irons and missing a lot of greens and therefore putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on my short game. Another frustrating round because I knew I was underperforming. Second day entered the round with a fresh and positive mindset of simply trying to see how many greens I could hit. I told myself to just aim at the middle of the green and swing the club freely. I played much better than the day before and had two poor bogeys to finish the round with a 76. Still not happy with how I have performed this summer but I am trying to turn things around and prove that I can play at the competitive level with the rest of these talented college players.

  • 54 hole event. Shot 78, 85, 76. Placed 49th out of 60 players. Par 72, yardage 6,233, rating 77.5 and slope 137. I felt good going into this tournament. The first day I was playing very solid until the last two holes. Hit my driver into the water on 17 and tried to save the hole with a bogey but just missed the putt, and then 18 was a poorly played hole. The next I played really bad. I started on the back nine, I could not find a rhythm and struggled to make a score. The last day I struggled on the front nine (played the back nine first, which played three strokes harder for the tournament than the front nine because of wind and hazards). However pulled myself together on the back nine to shot two under.

  • 54 hole event. Shot 76,77,78. Place T12 out of 24 players. Par 72, yardage 6,006, rating 74.4, and slope 132. This was the best tournament I've played this summer simply because I played steady for three days. During my tournaments this summer I have had a good round, a bad round, and a decent round. I finally strung together three decent rounds which felt good. My game felt good in this tournament and I was a little disappointed in the end because I felt like I could of posted better scores. However this was the best scoring tournament I've had and I am proud of that.

  • Shot 79. Par 71, yardage 6,231, rating 77.6, and slope 148. The cut for the championship match play was at 32 players and after the first round six players including myself were at T32. The six players went into a playoff playing 10, 17, and 18. I was proud of the way I played in the playoff. I have never been in a playoff and I was excited and nervous to see how it all panned out. I had a chance on 10 and 17 to make a birdie but unfortunately the putts did not drop and I lost in the playoff on 18. I went into the 1st flight and lost my match 2&1. I played well but missed a few putts and had two bad holes which in the end I could not get back. I won my first match in the consolation bracket of the 1st flight 5&4. Then I lost the final match of the consolation bracket on the 18th hole. I did not play well the last day and I would say it was my worst round of the tournament. This was a really good tournament for me. I learned a lot, and was put in high pressure situations. I was happy with the way I performed in those high pressure situations. Although I did not come out victorious in the 1st flight, in this tournament I proved to myself that I belonged competing against these talented women. I hit shots when I needed to hit them but sadly I still made mistakes just like everyone and came up a shot or two short. Each tournament this summer I've performed a little bit better each time and I am happy to see the progress I've made in tournament golf.

  • I shot 81 and got second out of 10 girls, the winner shot 80. I played in the best group in the summer and had a blast! They were all phenomenal golfers, obtained etiquette, and were fun to play with. It was a close match with everyone within 2 or 3 strokes throughout the entire round. My group finished 80,81,83,85. I pulled through for second place with a chip in for birdie on the 18th hole. I had two birdies. My irons were on fire but I could not get my ball to drop and had nothing but 2 putts. The yardage was 5,651 yards, the rating was 73.3 and slope 125, par 71

  • I shot 84 and got 2nd out of 18 girls, the winning score was 79. I played from a yardage of 6,061 yards, the rating was 69 and the slope was 126, and par was 72. I had 3 penalty strokes. This golf course was playable but I did not perform. It was extremely hot today, and I do not do well when I get over heated. Around the 13th hole I started to get a splitting headache and it was very hard to concentrate. I pushed through and pared in with 5 pars.

  • I shot 90 and got 3rd out of 17 girls. The winning score was 81. I did not play well. I was missing everything left, I had 34 putts, and 4 penalty strokes. As the tournament progressed I loosed confidence in my swing and ability. The yardage I played from was 5,636 yards and the rating was 67.70, the slope 115, and par was 72.

  • I shot 90 and got second out of 13 girls. I played from 5,974 yards and the rating was 70.5, the slope was 121 and par was 72. I have played there before but my irons were not the best. I had 32 putts, I played well but not the best. The course played long because there was not a lot of roll. The winning score was 84.

  • I have played at this course before and really like the course. I played from 5187 yards and shot a score of 80. I played really well this tournaments from the aspect of not having a worse score than a bogey. After nine holes I put myself in a good position to break 80 with a 39 on the front nine. On the back nine the wind started to pick up and mess with my head and I screwed my score over with a bogey run. I was still fighting with my driver like the last tournament and only hit my five wood off of the tee. My irons were not as good as my previous tournament but my putting was better handled with a total of 30 putts. I tied for second in a pool of 18 girls.

  • In this tournament, there was a two hour rain delay, so my tee time was at 10:00 instead of 8:00. I had never played this golf courses, so this tournament was a learning experience. I shot 89 and tied for third in a field of 16 girls. My driver was not working for me, so I used my five wood for most of my tee shots. My course management was not the best today and my putts added up to a large number of 40. The greens were fast and very hard to read. My irons were the best part of my game in this tournament. I played from a total yardage of 5406 yards.
