Do you know what are the chances of making a hole-in-one when playing golf? Around 1 in 12,500! These are the odds, give or take, of me liking golf when I hit my first ball back when I was 5. Luckily, my father was persistent enough to transfer the Rametra passion for golf to me.
My name is Alisha Rametra, I am 16 years old and I have been playing golf since I was 8. When I was 13, I started playing in local tournaments like NTPGA. I have participated in many tournaments including the VOA Championship and the Texas Women’s Open. During these years I have combined my golf training with other sports, most importantly swimming. I was part of Team Suffolk in NY where I achieved Junior Olympic times. After moving to Dallas, I joined Texas Ford Aquatics. I also joined my high school’s swim and golf varsity team. During my sophomore year, we went to state for both sports! Being a dual sport athlete, I have always loved a competitive environment. However, after swimming for 8 years, I decided to only focus on golf.
I feel that golf is such a well-rounded sport with mental and physical aspects, which makes it so loveable. Golf gives me that adrenaline and passion to achieve high goals. Golf has taught me a lot of things like how to be patient and focused. Over the two years that I have played competitively, I have improved tremendously shooting from mid to low 90’s to shooting in the low 70’s. My goal is to keep improving my skills, play college golf and climb the ladder of LPGA.
My academics are also a big factor in my life. I have always taken honors classes and in high school, I started taking AP classes. I am an A-B student with a 3.8/4.0 GPA.
I keep a balanced life between my social, academics and sports life. I hope that college will help further my personal goals.
