Personal Statement

My Name is Joslyn Lopez and I currently am going to be a Junior  at Sharyland Pioneer High School. I am continuously pursuing my dream as well  as my grandfathers dream to play collegiate golf and even possible LPGA. I have loved the game of golf since I was 5 years old and my grandfather whom was also my coach for the game would take me to watch my Aunt practice in high school.  I remember the day he went out and got me a plastic set to just play with while we watched  my Aunt practice after school. I can hear him say "Mija this is yours all you do is hit the little ball ok". I swung and he goes "OK" we have a natural here. Since then I have participated in Mission Summer League as well as STPGA since I was 6. I have traveled and have played in some of the best courses and the most memorable would have to be the TPC where I also got to see the Valero open and get autographs of some amazing golfers in 2015. With the loss of my grandfather suddenly in July 2020 it took a toll on me and my game as he was not only my grandfather and like a father to me he was my coach.  As I entered my Sophomore year in August it was a struggle to get out on any course and realize he wouldn't be in the golf cart following me every hole. There would be no critique or talks after the tournament to fix for the 2nd day. I realized that I needed to continue what I have worked so hard for and with the push of my Mom and my Stepdad and my grandmother to get back to the love of the game. I continue to work everyday to improve my game and my mental game as that is something that I do struggle with but I am learning to work through it. I want to become a colligate player for a great university and become an LPGA. I want to study Forensics during my 4 year career. I believe that I would fit in anywhere I go with my personality to not only push myself but the team around me to be great. Like my Mom always says I am a student athlete and I  continue to strive to be great on and off the course.
