My name is Katelyn Foster and I am from San Marcos, TX. I have lived in San Marcos all of my life. I didn’t start playing golf until the end of my freshman year because I was on the volleyball and varsity basketball teams at San Marcos High School. My sophomore year I dropped volleyball, so I would have time to learn how to play golf. My decision to quit volleyball paid off, as I advanced to regionals the spring of my sophomore year. Competing at regionals, I realized that I needed to devote more of my time to practicing golf, so I could improve my game and catch up to the girls who have been playing much longer than me. My golf coach, Mel Callender, suggested I quit playing for the varsity basketball team, so I could devote all my time to developing my talent. I became team captain my junior year and will continue to serve in that position during my senior year. I have not regretted leaving the other sports to give me time to pursue my passion of playing golf. I have enjoyed playing golf on my high school team and look forward to pursuing the sport in a collegiate setting as I continue improving.
