My name is Halle Parkin. I am a senior at Riverton High School, graduating in 2019. My dad introduced me to the sport of golf when I was 8 years old, and I have loved it ever since.
I started playing competitively when I was 9 years old in the U.S. Kids, Utah Junior Golf Association, and Utah Section PGA tournaments. Among other more recent achievements, in 2013, I won the Utah Junior Golf Association’s Carrie Summerhays-Roberts Cup as the Golfer of The Year.
I injured my elbow in December 2016, resulting in surgery and an 8-month absence from golf. Being restricted from swinging a golf club during my recovery was difficult personally, not only because I was unable to play the game, but because I knew I wouldn’t be visible to potential college coaches during this period. This trying time taught me lessons about the value of perseverance, never giving up, and what it takes to come back from a setback. I’ve worked very hard to get back to swinging and playing the game I love. My elbow no longer hinders me in any way. My determination to succeed, and my passion for the game has only grown from this experience.
I was the #1 varsity player of my high school team as a freshman and junior and look forward to improving my game as I prepare for my senior year season.
I take my academics seriously and have successfully completed multiple concurrent and AP classes. My cumulative GPA is a 3.88.
Aside from golf, I serve as a volunteer with my church in a special needs program. This program helps individuals with disabilities participate in games and social activities with each other once a week. I am also applying to be a member of the Riverton City Youth Council.
This summer, I took 2 ½ weeks off from golf to volunteer with a humanitarian organization called HEFY (Humanitarian Especially for Youth). This 2 ½ weeks included travel to Bolivia to help build a school for Bolivian children. Even though the work of mixing cement, shoveling dirt, and setting brick walls was some of the hardest work I’ve done, it was a very humbling experience that sparked an interest in exploring degree opportunities related to humanitarian work.
I have a determined mind and a strong sense of integrity and honesty. I love making new friends and would love to be a member on a college golf team.
I look forward to answering any questions you may have.
