Personal Statement
I am a junior from Odessa, Washington graduating in the year 2012. This will be my fourth year of high school athletics and my 7th year as a member of the Washington Junior Golf Association. As an 8th grader I took 3rd place at the high school state tournament (1B and 2B Division). As a freshman the following year I placed 3rd once again. As a sophomore this last year, I won the state tournament for my division. I come from an extremely small farming community and I will graduate in a class of 14. My home course is a rustic nine-hole course with no practice facilities. As the only girl on my golf team, I have learned how to work hard and stay focused, even when no one was pushing me. I have had limited access to a professional over the course of my golf career and therefore I have had to teach myself how to golf, with a few pointers here and there. I believe I have raw talent and if combined with professional coaching I will be able rise to my full potential. I have always been told I am extremely coachable and possess a desire to learn. My athletics are very important to me but I place equal or greater emphasis on my academics and hold myself to high standards in and out of the classroom. I participate on varsity in volleyball, basketball, golf during the school year as well as golf year round. I am a member of numerous school clubs and activities. I push myself to achieve. Because of my many pursuits, I have learned how to keep everything in balance and operate under stress. It has always been my dream to play collegiate golf and I feel I have the abilities both on the course and in the classroom to achieve this goal. As for schools, I am open to all different types and sizes in any corner of the United States. Ideally, I am looking for a medium-sized school with a self-contained campus in an urban area, but I am flexible. As engineering is a career I have an interest in, the availability of a strong engineering program would be desirable as well.
