Personal Statement
When I started First Tee at the age of 9, I never thought my journey in golf would evolve to me striving to play collegiate golf. My experiences in golf thus far have taught me perseverance, dedication, and maturity. I have learned many great life lessons and it has provided me with opportunities that are noteworthy off and on the course.
My goal after high school graduation is to find a university that allows me to meet my academic and athletic pursuits. I want to be able to find a balance between being a successful student and a competitive golfer. Finding a program that allows me to make a great connection with the Coach and bond with my teammates is also important. The traits that I believe represent me are highly organized, self-motivated, and respectful. I have strong communication skills and manage my time well.
My parents are immigrants from Vietnam who took the journey to America with their family in hopes of a better life. My mom is now a successful dentist who owns and runs her own practice, and my dad is a financial analyst for Davita. They have worked hard to provide a comfortable life for my sister and I and have taught us that determination and perseverance are integral to achieving our goals. I always remember not to take anything for granted and try to make them proud knowing the circumstances they grew up with.
Perseverance is a trait that holds high value to me and is what I believe is one of my strongest characteristics. This past year especially, I have endured a lot when my uncle took his life, and my sister was in the hospital with a life-threatening syndrome. The level of pain was something I had never experienced before, but through it all, I found a greater strength to push through and continue to work hard at my golf game, in school, and in my overall life.
In my free time, I am mostly golfing, but I do enjoy hanging out with friends, spending time with family, trying new foods, shopping, and volunteering. The two main organizations that I participate in are The First Tee of Greater Seattle and the Washington Junior Golf Association. About three years ago my friend Brianna and I came up with the idea to give back to the volunteers by raising money. We were able to bring the idea to life and since then we have tried to give back at least once every year. The following year, I alongside three others was able to host an appreciation dinner for the volunteers of WJGA and First Tee of Greater Seattle at Overlake Golf and Country Club. For the last three years, I hosted a charity golf tournament with some of our closest golf friends whom we share the same last name with. All of the proceeds are donated to local non-profit organizations that help build our community.
I am excited to continue my academic and golf journey and look forward to getting stronger, hitting longer, scoring lower, and one day making my mark in the world.
