Personal Statement
My name is Courtney Matschke and I am a Senior at Franklin High School. I have been playing golf since I was 7. My goal since Freshman year has been to play golf in college.
I am looking for a school where I can play golf and get a great education. My education is very important to me and I plan to study business (accounting and finance) in college. I want to be a part of a team that will challenge me and support me in my golf career. I have learned a lot about how important a team can be and that although golf is a individual sport, the team dynamics you have are also very important. On the course I want a team that will strive to maintain a positive attitude while golfing, and girls that will support each other. I want a coach that will challenge our team to be the best we can be.
As the season comes to a close, I have earned our conference Player of the Year award as well as 1st team All Conference. In addition, I was selected to 2nd Team All-State . Post Season play started on 9/28/17 and my goal was achieved by helping our team make it back to the State Tournament a 2nd time and me back a 3rd time. On the way back to the State Tournament, I was able to win our Conference, Regional and Sectional Tournaments.
At the State tournament I tied for 8th place with a 2 day total of 155, 11 over par.
My junior and senior season I was a co-captain of the team, golfed as number one, and also received the MVP award at the end of each season. Last season, I qualified for state as an individual and finished 22nd posting an 86 and 79. Sophomore year I played on varsity and our team made it to the state tournament for the first time in our school history.
In 2017, I will have competed in over 45 tournament rounds and have worked hard on adjusting my swing to create better consistency and accuracy.
Off the course I enjoy reading, water skiing, downhill skiing, playing basketball, and singing.
