Personal Statement

My goal is to go to college and continue to play the game I love.  I am prepared to push myself to my maximum potential.   I am excited to make new friends and be a part of a golf family.  My vision is to be a great teammate, encouraging others to do their best so that our team wins championships. Since I started golfing at around 4 years of age I have received many awards, trophies and championships in my home state of West Virginia. What makes my story different is the challenge I had to overcome to do so. I was born with flat feet and very tight heel cords. Instead of walking on my tip toes as most people would have, I rolled all the weight bearing bones to the outside of my foot causing the bones to swell causing me a lot of pain with every step I take.

While many doctors tried all kinds of treatments on my feet, I just kept on playing through the pain.  At age 14, I was Girls Champion on the  Calloway Golf Tour.  I medaled in the end of season tournament for girls 18 and under, and finished 8th in the championship flight of the Women's Amateur.  I am a varsity starter at Parkersburg High School since my freshman year.

Finally in January I had surgery at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and a bone graft was placed on the outside of my foot to correct my gait.  After spending 3 months in a cast/wheelchair, the cast was removed the first week of April.  I am happy to report much improvement in my pain.  I now look forward to competing in national and regional tournaments this summer and in the fall leading my high school to a state championship.  Next fall, they will repeat the surgery on my right foot.   I look forward to seeing how well I can play in college, not having to deal with playing in pain.

I have had to overcome pain; I want to be living proof to others who are born with a disability, that with hard work, determination, prayers and practice, THEY CAN DO IT TOO !

  • 73 ! I have learned very important things from playing these two day events..... After spending 4 days in the hospital with a bad kidney infection I've learned to drink, drink, and drink more during the rounds and to make a pit stop after 9 holes regardless! I was released Saturday evening and we drive down and my practice round I shot 69 ! Tournament I did fair and shot 2 over 73. I really wanted to break into the 60's in tournament play. I'll get there. Still my lowest round this year. :)
  • Camp/Event
  • Hurricane Junior Tour Summer Classic at Eagle Creek
  • 7/02/16 to 7/03/16
  • Arrived and they changed my practice round to 3:40 and it started storming at 2:50. So, no practice round. I was even after my first 7 holes and hit in a pot bunker as tall as me on #8 and ended up with quad bogies because of sand on 8 & 9. I had birdies on #'s 11 & 13. But ended up round 1 with 13 over 86. Round 2 I felt more confident after playing the course and worked in the bunkers after round 1. I hit into 1 pot bunker, kept my putts under 30 however I did miss 3 short putts I should have made and I ended round 2 with a 79. Better, my game is starting to come around since my surgery and looking forward to getting back to low 70's again! :)
