This last season continued to be a season of growth and development - playing against the top teams in Canada. My Delta Hockey Prep Team finished second at the CSSHL Championship and was ranked 5th in the country. I was one of only two grade 10s on the team.
I have always wanted to compete at the highest level and for female hockey that is college hockey in the US. I have shown a commitment and dedication to finding the best competition so that I can improve my game. When I switched to female hockey at the U13 level there were no female teams near me so I had to travel via ferry for my games and practices. I would often leave right after school, travel to my practice and return home on the last ferry- getting home at midnight. When I wanted to find the best competition and coaching available for myself in grade 8 I tried out for the Delta Hockey Academy's Varsity Team. The Delta Hockey Academy competes in the CSSHL. I was one of only four grade eights competing in the CSSHL. The remainder of the players were primarily in grades ten to twelve. I didn't find this intimidating but instead appreciated the challenge of competing against older, more experienced players. I also appreciated having older teammates and their mentorship.
Combining my skating skill and hockey sense I’ve developed in to a player who can effectively create changes in puck possession and then transition quickly from defensive play to creating offensive opportunities. I’ve learned to play with poise and to make quick and correct decisions in the heat of the game. I don’t shy away from any physical play.
