Personal Statement

Hockey has been a huge part of both my family and my life for a long time. I started playing when I was 7 because my older brother was already playing, and of course I wanted to be as cool as him. With both of us playing, we were at the rink a lot and so my little brother started playing too. Hockey has dominated our home life for many seasons.

For my first five years in hockey I played on boys' travel teams, usually as the only girl on the team. My coaches have often recognized me as a leader on both boys and girls teams and I have been chosen to be a captain during five different seasons/teams. I played boys travel hockey with Arvada Hockey Association through my first year of Bantams. I transitioned to girls hockey with Lady RoughRider U14AA during the 2017-18 season. This decision turned out to be a fantastic experience because my team was a close knit family and strongly valued teamwork. This was also an amazing experience because we made it to Nationals and placed sixth in the nation. I felt like I was playing my best hockey I had played all year and this has inspired me to take my game to the next level. As an added bonus in the spring of 2018 I was able to play at the Girls' High School Nationals in Minnesota with Monarch High School. We did well and secured our spot to play in the Girls' High School Nationals for Spring 2019. Based on these experiences I decided to take my game to the next level and play Team Colorado, the only AAA team in the state.

I am a multisport student athlete. In addition to hockey I also play high school lacrosse and my freshman year I made Varsity and lettered. This was another phenomenal experience because not only did I have so much fun, but I made many new friends and it helped me feel more integrated with the school. Lacrosse helps me to have a break from hockey and to focus on another sport that I love.  This past year I also got honorable mention all-conference. Academically, I am very driven and self motivated for achievement.  This year I am enrolled in AP physics and honors pre-calc.  I have maintained a 4.0 GPA since 7th grade, and last year I ended with a 4.5 weighted GPA. The most recent PSAT I have taken was in the Spring of 2019 and I scored a 1370. I am very interested in Computer Science, technology, and engineering. I have taken some summer camps and classes at Colorado School of Mines, which has deepened my love for STEM. In my limited down time I find reading books is a good way for me to relax and clear my head. My faith and religion is very important to me and has shaped me into the young woman I am today. Being Catholic has given me a group of friends who I can call my family, and it has really helped me realize who I want to be.
