I am interested in finding a college that offers the balance of competitive hockey and the academic courses that I am interested in. This year I am going to be a Sophomore attending Lyons Township High School, class of 2023. I will be playing at the Tier 1 level for the Team Illinois 16u girls team for the 2020-21 season.
During my freshman year, I finished the year with a weighted GPA of 5.0 and unweighted GPA of 4.0. I participated in my school’s math team and placed first during the individual competition at regionals, qualifying for the state competition that unfortunately got cancelled. I am very interested in pursuing math and computer programming.
This past hockey season I played at the Tier 2 level for the Chicago Bruins 14u Elite team. I was the first line center and led my team in both goals and assists with a total of 58 goals and 33 assists, for a total of 91 points in 64 games. We won the President's Cup, NIHL Championship (I was named the MVP) and State Championship. We qualified for nationals, which unfortunately got cancelled.
Playing hockey is something that I am very passionate about and I have always found it as a sport that I enjoy. When playing hockey I take pride in my play in the defensive zone. As a center, I find it very important to have good positioning and defensive skills in order to prevent the opposing team from getting quality scoring chances. In addition to regular 5 on 5 defensive zone play, I also take pride in my composure as a forward on the penalty kill, whether it is a 5 on 4 or 5 on 3.
When it comes to hockey, I’ve always been a hard worker. Both on and off the ice I have always worked the hardest I could in that moment to become the best player I can be and to make others around me better. Before games, my dad has always told me to be the hardest worker on the ice and so that is my mindset every time I step on the ice.
I look forward to learning more about colleges and their hockey programs and academics over the next couple years.
