Personal Statement
I started playing hockey when I was about eleven years old. At first, it was a struggle because most people had already been playing since they were very little. This gave them the advantage of being better and knowing the game better; however I put in the work every chance I got, so I could be just as good, or better, than the kids who have been playing since they were young. Once I caught up to where I should be skill-wise, I did not stop. I kept putting in that same dedication. When I try something, and I can not get it right, I push myself to work on it until succeed. I believe dedication is a big part of improving. Another thing that I believe makes a player better is their willingness to learn which I have a lot of. If a coach gives me constructive feedback, I always try my best to utilize it. I always love getting constructive feedback because I know that it is only going to make me better. Also, this season, I am the captain for my team. Even though I dedicate a lot of time to hockey, I still always make sure that I stay on top of my academics. I plan to do well in the future as well because grades mean a lot to me. When I am figuring out what college is best for me, I am definitely focusing on the academic aspects along with hockey aspects.
