Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Ella, and I am currently a high school sophomore (grad. 2026). From a young age, I was interested in playing hockey. In sixth grade, my parents decided to let me try it and I loved it, just like I thought I would. I was on the ice a few practices before my first game, and my coach was looking for someone to volunteer as the goalie. I strapped on the pads, and I was hooked!

This will be my sixth year (23-24 season) playing hockey, the last four years competitively. I have spent countless hours on the ice, doing clinics, and camps, and playing for several teams each season. People are often surprised to find out I haven’t been playing for much longer based on my skills and knowledge. I enjoy playing high-level, high-intensity hockey. I seek out and thrive in challenging situations. I continually strive to improve myself on the ice by doing self-reflection and reviewing videos of my games. During practices, I always take the time to connect with my coaches and teammates to find areas to focus on that not only will help me with my technical skills, but also help me be the best teammate I can be. All my coaches frequently comment about my coachability, perseverance, and hard work. I currently go to Gilmour Academy. Aside from hockey, school is also very important to me. I do very well academically and just like on the ice; I strive to continually improve myself. I enjoy spending my free time with my family, friends, and hobbies, and with my two dogs and cat. My goal is to play hockey in college and beyond. I am looking forward to finding a school that will help me achieve this goal while also achieving my academic goal which is to pursue a career in the science field.
