At a young age, I was diagnosed with a skin condition called lichen sclerosis. Rather then let this limit me, I used it to encourage me to want to help others faced with chronic skin conditions. I had a great experience with my dermatologist who was friendly, caring, and inspiring. She taught me that there are answers and medications that can help so that skin conditions like mine do not have to be life altering. My dermatologist was my mentor and I quickly knew that I wanted to be a dermatologist so I can help share this message with others. Since that time, I have done a lot of general research about what classes will help me prepare for this field now in highschool and in college. This year, I took advanced placement biology and I know now that I absolutely love science and that this career would be a great choice for me! I even spend countless hours on the internet learning about skin conditions/viewing bing images of various rare conditions, etc. Another love for me is ice hockey. I started playing hockey relatively late in comparison to some girls, and have been playing since fourth grade. The hockey bug bite quickly and after the first year out I started playing in the Summer months too to help catch up with my teammates. I have always worked very hard each practice to improve. I would love the opportunity to play college hockey while studying pre-med. That would be a true dream come true.
