Devin Marshall '19 Recruiting Profile

Ironically, ice hockey wasn't even in my vocabulary until I moved to the not so hockey central of New Mexico. My passion for this sport began with some simple backpack mail for a try hockey for free clinic. I remember getting super excited when I showed my parents the flyer, and them grimacing at the thought of me playing hockey. However, my persistence finally wore my parents down, and I found myself in a locker room with a bag of rental gear a few weeks later. When I first stepped on the ice, I fell flat on my face, started crying, and wanted to leave right away. However, my mom picked me up, and left me with a simple phrase that still drives me today. With a gesture towards a group of laughing kids and coaches, my mother simply said "Go prove them wrong". This simple phrase as driven my life from that point on, and has made me into to quite the competitive person (much to my parents demise). This competitive nature lead me to participate in athletics year round, in order to stay in shape for hockey while gaining the various skills that would improve my game on the ice. In every sport, I strive to be the best player I can while gaining the agility, physicality, and quick thinking necessary for hockey. My competitiveness has also spread into my academics. For the last 6 years, I have maintained a position among the top ten people of my grade when it comes to GPA. In order to achieve my grades, I have been taking Honors and AP courses since middle school, resulting in a weighted GPA of 4.7 and an unweighted of 3.9. When it comes to college, I hope to attend a school that fits me and my quirky personality and then later going on to medical school
