Hello! My name is Isabella Maish and I am 15 years old. I’m a 5’8”, 145 lbs Forward playing for the 16u Tier 1 Junior Flyers in Philadelphia, PA. I would love to play NCAA Division I Ice Hockey; however, I am open to playing for Division III and the ACHA since I am just beginning the recruiting process.
I have enjoyed many sports from a very young age: soccer, gymnastics, lacrosse, field hockey, basketball, and water polo. But when I was 10 years old, my dad took me to a play hockey for free event and I fell in love with hockey. My brother and I would skate for hours only to beg my dad to stay even longer. The difference for me between other sports and hockey, was my passion for the sport. I love everything about it. I have enjoyed great friendships with my teammates and formed close bonds with my coaches. I still keep in touch with former coaches and go back for lessons in the off season. Since my brother also plays hockey, the rink has always been like a family to me.
Because I love playing and have had the opportunity to train in the off season at summer camps, Keystone games, and events like Atlantic Districts, I have gone from Learn to Hockey in 2015 to making the 16u AAA team for the Jr. Flyers in 5 years. My self discipline and passion for the game have driven me to where I am today. I am looking forward to excelling at this level and beyond.
I started off on a travel team in rural Pennsylvania in 2015. Since I came into the sport later than most players at the AAA level, I’m continuing to improve quickly. However, I continue to push myself everyday to be the best athlete I can be. My hockey IQ, positioning, aggressiveness, speed, and shot have all improved greatly. On and off the ice, I enjoy being in leadership roles. I love to make people around me the best that they can be.
I love learning, and I am especially interested in aerospace and astrobiology because no matter how long I spend on it, I always want to keep learning more. If a topic has anything to do with any type of science, I am always intrigued. I have a 4.0 GPA and have been distinguished honor roll in the most advanced classes offered in my school.
I have worked with the Polar Bears, an ice hockey team for children with special needs and served on student council. I hope to continue volunteer work and become more involved with my school as I progress through high school.
