Personal Statement
Winning the mite championship as the only girl on my boys hockey team in 2009 was the beginning of my love for competition and desire to be the best hockey player I can be. No matter if I am competing for a national hockey title or writing a paper for history, I always give one hundred percent effort. After elementary school, I was placed on an all-girls club hockey team in Erie and proceeded to play with many of the same girls for multiple seasons. By my fifth year on the team, I was voted captain because of my positivity during games, devotion to the sport, affability towards teammates and coaches, and reliability on and off the ice. During the same season, I also played my first season with my high school's varsity girls hockey team. The high skill level of the girls on the varsity team further motivated me to become better. This lead to me making the very difficult decision to leave my club team and close friends to play at a higher level on a hockey team more suitable for my skills. Because I had settled for playing at a level lower than my ability, some of my skills had fallen behind. As a result, I worked harder and challenged myself to get better every workout and every practice that I had. All this work finally paid off this year when, despite only playing at the 14u level last season, I was selected for a 19u team that is expected to perform extremely well at nationals.
For the future, some of my goals include competing for a national title with my club team and winning more league championships with my high school hockey team. After high school, I would like to attend a college where I will be challenged both academically and athletically so that my abilities can grow and improve. In college, I hope to play women's hockey at the next level. I am determined to get into a selective college using my academic accomplishments and work ethic. I eventually would like to study medicine. I believe that my determination will bring unique and valuable leadership skills to my future college's academic and athletic programs.
