Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Katherine Hoff. I am seventeen years old and I am in 12th grade. I attend Rice Memorial High School in Burlington Vermont. I consider myself a well rounded person. I love people, animals and sports. School is fun and I enjoy learning new things but above all I love hockey!
I decided to join NCSA because hockey is my passion and I dream of playing in college and beyond. I currently play for the Rice Prep in South Burlington, VT, wearing number 3. Playing for RIce Prep has given me the opportunity to develop my skills and grow as a player, teammate and person.
I have been playing hockey for seven years. I am a versatile player. I currently play right or left wing but started my hockey career as a defender. While there are many other sports that I enjoy, hockey has become my passion. In the off season, my stick never leaves my hands but I also play lacrosse in the spring.
I am a very active person. When I was three I started doing gymnastics which I continued for seven years. While ultimately I had to give up gymnastics because the demanding schedules for both gymnastics and hockey conflicted, I enjoyed gymnastics. To this day I can still do a back handspring and as well as a back tuck. I believe my years on the mats have helped me in hockey. I am lean and strong and am very focused.
As I am sure anyone reading this can tell, I love sports and above all hockey, but I also really enjoy school and all kinds of animals. My favorite classes are science and english, and I personally have a house full of animals.
I am currently really enjoying the opportunity to visit colleges and speak with college coaches about their programs and schools. I am really looking forward to taking the next steps and applying to schools and actually planning my future in college as opposed to just dreaming about it. I am still exploring what field I would like to major in, but I am currently leaning towards Sports Management, Forensics or perhaps something in the medical sciences.
As an 12th grader looking ahead, I know my love for hockey alone will not be enough to ensure I achieve my goal of playing hockey in college. I know that only with hard work, dedication and determination will I get to where I want to be. There is no doubt I love hockey and I am good at it but I also know that every day, and everytime I step on the ice is an opportunity to learn and make myself better and stronger. I know if I want it bad enough and I set my mind to it I will be able to achieve my goals. There are many players that have lots of skill but I think it takes more than just being good with your stick and fast on your skates to be an all around great hockey player. I think you need to be dedicated, determined, eager to learn and an all around good teammate. You must be driven by the desire to learn and get better and focus on and respect those that can help you get there. I truly believe that I am that person. I work hard and I want to succeed and I want to be a part of helping my team succeed.
