Personal Statement
I began playing hockey as a young child. At the age of 6, I received my first hockey lessons. Soon, I began playing in a local house league. At the age of 8, I decided I wanted to try a new position: goalie. I fell in love with the position during my first game. On the way home from the rink, I knew I wanted to play goalie; I had found the position I was meant to play.
Growing up, my brother and I would always compete in different sports: soccer, street hockey, baseball; you name it we probably did it. From that, I learned the thrill of competition. We weren’t a boy and girl, we were two opponents fighting to win. Living in Central Virginia, there are not many highly competitive girls’ teams. I’ve played with and against boys’ teams since I started travel hockey in 2010. Throughout these years, I have carried the same mentality that I had when competing with my brother; I want to be victorious no matter the opponent.
Hockey has been one of the most important activities in my life. I have never felt a greater sense of love and passion for a sport. The best part of my day is when I can step onto the ice. I am unable to imagine college without hockey. I will work hard to ensure that I am able to continue growing my skills and love for the game while playing at the collegiate level.
