Personal Statement

Dear Coaches,

I started skating at the age of five, as I watched my brother and dad play and love hockey, I became interested. I started my journey of being a hockey player at the 8u level on the Sno-King boys' team. As I have grown and developed over the years, I began to set my goal to play college hockey. I remember the intimidation in 10u of being the only girl on an all-boys team. I felt I had to work the hardest and prove my spot. Seeing my teammates believing they were the best players pushed me to want to beat them and show everyone this is what I want to do. When I made the switch to girls' hockey there was a visible difference between the two. The skill level was fairly the same, but the different life skills and qualities I was able to develop are valuable and useful for the rest of my life. I learned leadership, responsibility, and how to achieve your goals. I feel playing 14u AA hockey along with one on one lessons has taught me how to balance my school work/academics while attending practices, games, and extra training. I have maintained a 4.0 gpa throughout middle school. Going into high school I will also be taking honors classes. It is because of my constant busy schedule that I have excellent time management skills while staying organized. My accountability, work ethic, leadership, responsibility, manners, commitment, and my mindset to take the extra step are common characteristics I have been told by teachers, coaches, and adults. What makes me stand out from the rest is my passion for hockey and desire to work hard. Hockey is something I want to continue while getting a college degree. I am very fortunate to see and experience titles such as a district championship, and being one of few to represent Washington in the national district camp in Colorado in 2019/2020. I have taken the advice and constructive criticism into practice and games to keep my hockey level at the highest it can be. I am committed to growing my speed, strength, and skills over the next seasons. All of these experiences have helped stand where I am today. As I enter high school I focus on being a leader  and a vocal contributor to my team and coaches. I hope to leave whichever college I might attend with knowledge of my career and hard work ,  many life skills and a strong work ethic that is on and off the ice.
