Sophie Calderon-Squire has been a Varsity starter in lacrosse since her Freshman year of high school. Her leadership and love of the game are two of her most obvious and outstanding qualities. Motivating herself and others to be the best they can in every practice and in every game is why she should be on a competitive college lacrosse team. Sophie's most ardent goal is to play as goalie in lacrosse at the collegiate level.
Semi-finals in the State Championship game was as far as her team had made it, since her freshman year. They were not seen as a threat, however, this past season they were not underestimated due to Sophie’s leadership. She helped her team fight every game and proved to the state of SC that they deserved to be at the Championship game. That game was the hardest fight they ever had as a team and the toughest of Sophie’s career, as of yet. Despite not winning that game, the lessons of teamwork and fighting for goals that were learned were far more important than a trophy. Lacrosse has given Sophie a chance to learn about teamwork, family and pushing herself and others to be their best on and off the field.
