Personal Statement

Hi my name is Sydney Rogness, I am 17 years old, and I am a Senior at Monte Vista High School in Danville, CA.

I am an athlete...after 10 years of competitive basketball AND 3 CONCUSSIONS, I hung up my basketball shoes and joined the Oakland Strokes Crew Team in the fall of 2022.

Continuing with crew allows me to transfer valuable skills I have developed from basketball: a competitive drive, being a great teammate, effectively communicating with others, I understand the value of hard work and grit, and I push myself to be my best in everything I do.

What makes me stand out from others is my strength and power...I BATTLED EVERY DAY in the post with players much bigger and taller than myself (thus the 3 concussions) and developed into a powerful rebounder and defender, which will definitely benefit me with crew.

I also take my academics very seriously and have a grade point average of 3.47.

I am very excited to continue my athletic career...I have a lot to learn, and am in the right place to do that.
