Personal Statement

My name is Ashley Song and I’ve been rowing for about three years at Newport Seabase. I’ve attended Youth Nationals two consecutive years in an eight, placing 7th and 12th overall respectively and my GPA is a 3.8. Before I found rowing, I had tried and failed at many different sports and extracurricular activities and I never felt like any of them stuck with me. However, the moment I tried out rowing I knew that it was for me. I initially fell in love with the sport due to the many new connections I made from it but I also started to appreciate the rigor and discipline the sport requires. I found that rowing not only has made me a happier person but the discipline required to do the sport also positively affected my Academics and study habits. I continue to be grateful that I found a sport that has impacted me so positively and I look forward to rowing in college as well.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
