Whitman Crew Wome...
November 2020When I first started rowing as a freshman, I had no idea how much I would fall in love with the sport. Although I was tall and strong, I wasn't the athletic type when I was younger and I never thought that would change, until I took my first stroke on the Potomac.
I grew up non-competitively tap dancing, so I didn't really get to experience what it felt like to be on a team working toward a winning goal. However when I discovered rowing, I noticed some similarities between the vastly different activities such as precise simultaneous movements working as one whole. When I decided to join my high school crew team, I found that having a more advanced understanding of rhythm as it relates to tap and rowing, proved to be very useful.
Now into my fourth year of being on a fast crew, my commitment to the sport and my team has never been stronger. I will bring that same dedication to my college crew without losing the hunger to improve. Outside of the boat, I continue to support and value my friendships with my fellow rowers which ultimately leads to a more cohesive crew.
Academically, I'm a well-rounded student with a strong propensity for math, psychology, and journalism. In addition to carrying a 4.2 weighted GPA, I plan on writing for the school magazine, as well as pursuing internship opportunities in psychology.
Being recruited onto a respected college crew is a top priority and I will continue to strive to make myself an enticing candidate.
