Personal Statement

Hi, I am Annabel Horvath and I have spent most of my life in sports and academics. I have been on track & field teams, and have played lacrosse, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and have settled on crew in high school. I have been rowing with Oakland Strokes since my freshman year, and decided to switch over to being a coxswain in my junior year. I really like the feeling of being in shape and dedicating myself to this sport, even though I have to wake up at 5:00 AM. As a coxswain, I try to motivate the rowers to push themselves as I have done, even if they are having a hard day.

In college, I am interested getting a minor degree in ASL (American Sign Language) but I have not decided on a major just yet. I am looking for a college experience that allows me to be independent and continue to purse crew and an athletic life style. Academics are super important to me and I want to get a great education and be ready to get a job and live a great life.

The regatta included junior and masters crews from throughout the Bay Area. The Oakland Estuary waterway is currently home to some of the best junior rowing programs in the country. Annabel led the women's 8 novice "A" boat #122 to a 23:24:4 finish for a 5K race.

The 9th Seat Coxswain Leadership Camp

A week long co-ed summer camp just for coxswains at the University of Washington. Coxswains will learn to row, hear racing audio, master boat maneuverability and become a stronger leader and teammate. This camp will help you be that 9th seat who makes a difference in boat speed.
