Personal Statement

I currently row for St. Peters, Cambridge New Zealand. I am a very good sculler and also sweep on stroke side. I have had many successes in both sculling and sweep over the previous 3 years which includes A finals in all events over the 2020/2021 season, bronze medals in both U17 singles, U17 quad, 6th place in U17 8 in the North Island Champs, selection for NZ U18's North vs South. Winner of the NZ U18 Nth vs Sth doubles, selection for Auckland lite blues squad, broken club record (Cambridge Club) for women's intermediate singles on water. I am a finalist for U19  sportswoman of the year for 2021 in my state. I have been appointed Vice Captain of girls rowing for St Peters Cambridge 2021/2022 season. Recipient of St Peters Cambridge Rowing Female Rower of the Year 2021, John Drummond Trophy U17 Quad, Top Erg Trophy, Senior colour, Top 10 award NZ secondary Schools. Recently won Gold at the 2022 NZ Club Championships in the coxless club pair.

My erg scores have seen me receive a gold medal in NZ indoor rowing Champs, top female erg 2021 season at St Peters School, NZ record in 5km erg 2020 (since been broken), 6th in World Champs Virtual Sprints 1km 2019.

I have also had many academic successes. My 2020 results from internal and external exams were endorsed with excellence overall and I am advanced in English and Math (Statistics) studying a year ahead in math. For my efforts I was awarded academic honors at my school. Received top year 12 student for Fashion Design 2021.

I am interested in Studying in America because there are so many opportunities that are not offered here in New Zealand, studying abroad is something that I have always been interested in doing. Specifically, Rowing is the reason why I am wanting to go to University in America, and I think that I would make a good fit for any team as I am determined, hard-working, and enjoy the team spirit of rowing in big boats, and clubs in general. I would be a useful team member and would love to be able to gain and share knowledge from other people's experiences. I would also love to be able to immerse myself in college life that is so different from what I would experience in New Zealand whilst gaining a fantastic education and rowing experience at the same time. I would further love the opportunity to benefit from world-class coaching and rowing. I think that what makes me different from other recruits is that I am really determined to perform not only the best for myself but for my teammates. My passion for rowing is huge. My wish is to secure a rowing scholarship as this is the only way I will be able to realize my dream of studying and rowing in the USA.
