Personal Statement
I want to be recruited for collegiate rowing first and foremost because of the love I have for the sport. Ever since I joined my local crew as a rower, I have been enamored by the sheer dedication, passion, and collaboration demanded of every teammate to put a boat across the finish line. Later, after moving to the coxswain seat for my second season, I discovered so much more about how I fit as a member of a crew and about what the sport really means to me, both in terms of work ethic and the all-powerful concept of "boat feel". Now, going into my third season of coxing (excluding summers), I am steadfast in my drive to self-actualize as a coxswain. I believe that I can and should do so on a collegiate team where I would be honored to contribute both my well-earned skills and experience as an athlete as well as my loyalty and devotion as a teammate and friend. As far as my collegiate goals outside of rowing, I am striving to go to a school where I will feel both welcomed and challenged, both at home and driven. At this point in my life, I am not fully committed to any one field of study. I am passionate about all things ranging from literature and music to biology and mathematics. Although I am leaning towards music composition and biotechnology as my main interests, it is undeniable that I have yet to explore the vast majority of fields and that I will ultimately need to attend a school where I can forge my path towards a bigger, brighter future with people to whom I can relate. I believe what truly sets me apart as a musician, student, and teammate are my unrelenting persistence and my commitment to my values. When I commit myself to something, not only will I see it through, but I will dedicate my full efforts to mastering the task at hand. Finally, I always strive to be moral, loyal, and empathetic towards the people around me. Because of this, among many other reasons that would take up much more space than appropriate, I am overwhelmingly eager and enthusiastic to find a home in your team.
