My name is Theodora Caminiti (I go by “Theo”), and I’m in my fourth year of rowing. I began sculling at Craftsbury, and now I sweep both sides and scull at RowAmerica Rye under Marko Serafimovski. I love the sport and plan to row in college and possibly beyond.
One of the reasons I love rowing is that it's in my blood. I am a fifth generation rower: my great grandfather was Jack Sulger (whose uncle introduced him to rowing on the Harlem River), was an accomplished national oarsmen and long-time coach of the New York AC, who raced against and then hosted the 1936 8+ (from Boys in the Boat) before Berlin. Jack Sulger managed or coached rowers on the US men’s team from 1960 in Rome through 1976 in Montreal. My Grandfather, Joe Caminiti, was an accomplished lightweight rower and coached the NYAC team for approx. 20 years; and my father rowed at the NYAC and was Captain of the Princeton Heavyweight Crew, as was my uncle Joe.
I give you this extensive personal history to show my deep connection and attachment to the sport. I love being out on the water and working in unison to make the boat go as fast as possible. I work hard on the water and on the erg, and am pleased that my erg times are really starting to drop.
[I'm adding this here because I can't add it in the stat section: I rowed a 60 minute piece on 11/18/16 and pulled an average split of 2:09.6]
