Personal Statement
Hi! I'm Arden,
I’ve been rowing for 3 years and continue to love the sport and work hard to thrive. With the amazing amount of support and mentoring from my family and coaches, I've learned how to put in the extra mile to achieve my goals. Having an injury (a broken wrist) was the hardest part of my rowing career, sitting on the sidelines while all my crewmates trained and competed was the hardest and most eye-opening experience I've ever dealt with. It really put into perspective just how much rowing means to me.
When I started rowing, although I was strong from the get-go, I was a small fish in a big pond. I looked up to my upperclassmen and wanted to be in their spot one day. From then on I watched their technique, listened to the critique from coaches and became a better rower. This resulted in my quick progression into "A" and senior crews at only the freshman level.
I am a leader. I'm competitive. I'm very coachable, I adapt to change very easily and I know the foundation of success lies in a good work ethic and hard training. I know that if I make it to the University level that I will work with the same mentality as my dad and coaches have always taught me to make myself as competitive as possible. I am familiar with different coaching styles and techniques and dealing with long workouts. I truly love the rush of the sport. I've rowed every season since the summer before my grade 9 year and have competed in as many regattas and races as possible. My 2K score is 7:52.1 and I am dedicated and determined to improve this significantly through my winter training.
I love being part of a team and competing. Proving to others that I deserve my chance by earning my spot is important to me. I know I am able to grow from setbacks and disappointments to become a better athlete. I love the second family that rowing gives me and I can’t wait to take the next step.
