My name is Heidi Davis and I am a Junior at Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor, PA and I row for the Whitemarsh Boat Club in Conshohocken, PA. I first started rowing Fall of my 8th grade year (2019). I participated in a "learn to row" program with a local rowing club and am still rowing today. The sport of rowing has been in my family history for decades. My great grandfather, Manny Flick, started a racing series out of Philadelphia back in 1955 which now has over 3,000 rowers competing throughout the Spring and is actually called the "Manny Flicks". My great uncle Bill even rowed with the Vesper Club and competed in the world championships in Poland in 1958. I am the first grandchild in my family to take up the sport which is now my passion. I fell in love with rowing that 8th grade Fall and was signed up for a Spring session. Then COVID hit...not only was there no rowing, there was no school. My mom found me small group that had a few rowers training and they let me in to train with them. It was my only outlet during lockdown and I am so thankful I had that. I like the challenge of beating my time and working hard. I love being on the water and being part of a team. I've always worked really hard...maybe even harder that others at times having Dyslexia. I have learned to advocate for myself and have surrounded myself with really great teachers and coaches...something I plan to do in college as well. My goal is to row in college, study hard, and who knows....maybe I'll follow in my great Uncle's footsteps and compete in a level like he did!
